Title 1 School-Parent/Student Compact

Under Every Student Succeeds Act, each Title I school jointly develops with parents a school - student-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the way in which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State's high standards.

As a school, we will:

  • Provide a high-quality effective learning environment that is safe and that enables the student to meet the State's student academic achievement standards.
  • Provide open communication between teachers and parents through various means of communication such as parent-teacher-student conferences, provision of teacher email addresses, Class Dojo, newsletters, PowerSchool, student agendas, and teacher/school web pages.
  • Provide opportunities for parents to volunteer and participate in their child's classroom activities, chaperone field experiences, attend monthly parent academies, PTSO, SAC, and Title I meetings and school family nights.
  • Provide a mutually respectful relationship between all parties (students, parents, teachers, and volunteers).
  • Provide highly qualified teachers as outlined by Florida statutes.
  • Provide frequent updates on student academic progress

As a parent, I will:

  • Support my child's learning by ensuring that he/she has proper rest and nutrition and attends school on time and regularly.
  • Support my child's learning by reading with him/her nightly for 20 minutes or ensuring my middle school child is reading a minimum of 30 minutes a night.
  • Support my child's class/school by meeting the parent volunteer requirements (10 hours per year).
  • Gain access to the school's grading portal and access my child's grades weekly, then immediately
  • Help set a positive tone for learning and all entities of the school with my child.
  • Participate in decisions relating to the education of my child through a mutually respectful relationship with all staff members of the school.
  • Provide a mutually respectful relationship between all parties (students, parents, teachers, and volunteers).
  • Provide time and adequate space for homework completion.
  • Follow up with teachers when I have questions or concerns.

As a student, I will:

  • Proudly follow the behavioral expectations taught at our school (PARR) and follow all directives given to me by the teachers and administration of the school.
  • Ask questions in a timely manner when I am not sure about a lesson or an assignment or have been absent and need to make up work.
  • Make good choices like paying attention in class, staying on task, doing my best, and working hard at my schoolwork.
  • Be the very best "WBA Bobcat" that I can be each and every day in order to excel to my greatest level of success
  • See something, Say something! I will report, to an adult at the school, any incidents that I deem or am taught is an unsafe situation immediately.

If there are additional comments or suggestions you wish for the school to consider, please let us know in the box below:

Project UP-START Information for Parents and Families

Project UP-START is the Education Program for Children and Youth Living in Transition in Miami-Dade. The program assists schools with the identification, enrollment, and attendance of students in transition to help ensure their successful academic achievement.

Project UP-START services are available to students enrolled in Miami-Dade County Public Schools from Head Start through 12th grade who are experiencing unstable housing. Any student who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, as defined by the Stewart B. McKinney-Bruce Vento Homeless Assistance Act, qualifies for Project UP-START.

A student who is residing in the following circumstances qualifies for Project UP-START:

  • Sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason, also known as “doubled-up;”
  • Living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations;
  • Living in emergency or transitional shelters; or
  • Living in a car, park, public space, abandoned building, substandard housing, train station, or other public or private place that is not designed for ordinary use as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings.

If your family is experiencing unstable housing conditions based on any of the categories above, please complete the Project UP-START Student Eligibility Questionnaire (FM-7378) below and electronically submit it to the Project UP-START Program or provide the completed form to your child’s school:

Project UP-START Student Eligibility Questionnaire (FM-7378)

English  Spanish  Creole

Parents can bring the completed form to the CSW school office or email it to Mr. Estrada, Dean at gestrada@charterk12.com

Upon enrollment into the Project UP-START Program, students will automatically receive free lunch. Students can apply for transportation through Project UP-START if they live over two (2) miles from their School of Origin, the school the student was attending when he/she had stable housing. Efforts are made to expedite psycho-educational evaluations for children who may be gifted or who are experiencing academic or behavioral difficulties. Project UP-START also works to increase advocacy on behalf of students through the distribution of information to school-based personnel on issues related to unstable housing and available community resources.

For questions regarding Project UP-START, please call us at 305 995-7558; 305 995-7318; or 305 995- 1729. You may also send us an email to projectupstart@dadeschools.net.
For emergency shelter, please immediately contact the Homeless Helpline at 877 994-4357.
